What Does a Government Shutdown mean? How will a government shutdown affect you? How long will the government shutdown last?
Historically, it has lasted anywhere from three days to three weeks. Do you work in a government industry? The spending plan needs to be passed to avoid a total government shutdown and no pay for the furloughed employees. Obama will have his work cut out trying to control this mess. How will you get paid if you are a government employee? good luck! Does the military still get paid? The troops will see a delayed paycheck. Will I get a social security check? Does the IRS close? You will still have to send in your income tax return by April 18th. Federal employees will feel the crunch. Republicans and Democrats need to get past the politics and do what is best for the people. Will the FBI still function? Is police service interrupted? How about medicare? Will interest rates go up? Is the processing of Visa's and passports delayed or stopped? Who is considered a non-essential employee? Home loans will stop being processed which means the economy will continue to suffer. What will this mean to wall street? The stock market is sure to feel the effects of reduced spending. What percent of American workers work for the government? Are Museums and National Parks going to be closed. What about state parks, monuments, federal agencies, the Arch in St. Louis, etc....
