Cicadas, The inch-long insects, which are sometimes mistakenly called 17-year locusts, are beginning to appear in southern states such as South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina and Arkansas.
As the temperature of the soil approaches 64 degrees, they will appear farther north. Every 13 years these amazing insects emerge from the soil (only on the eastern part of the United States). Cicades are noisy and annoying. Watch out for swarms while driving. These bugs do not bite and are harmless. Harmful only if they get in your drink
